Sunday Lunch and Afternoon Walk, Disley

Lunch/drinks from 12.00 Walk 13.30. Today’s meal will be at the White Horse, 18 Buxton Old Road, Disley, SK12 2BB. Follow the A6 from Stockport southwards to Disley, and on entering the village the railway station is on the right. If you then continue and turn right at the traffic lights by the Rams Head, the White Horse is a couple of hundred yards up the hill on the right hand side. The car park is along the lane before the pub, but it is only a small car park and (particularly if not eating) you may find it more convenient to park in the free car park on the station approach.

By public transport, you would need to catch the 199 Skyline bus, which leaves Stockport Bus Station at 05 past the hour and takes 30 minutes, alighting at the Rams Head, or the Buxton train which leaves Manchester Piccadilly at 10.43 11.49 and 12.48 and takes approx. 30 minutes to Disley.

The walk will be to Furness Vale returning via New Mills, taking in the Torrs Riverside Park, the Torrs Hydro and the Millennium Walkway, and is approx. 5½ miles, with a steep climb at the start in Disley. There are various options to shorten the walk if the weather is bad or someone doesn’t wish to do it all.

Every Sunday throughout the year, Manchester IVC has a walk which starts off at 1.30 pm prompt, and is usually 4-5 miles …. something like that. We meet at a local pub or restaurant and the walk will either start from there or somewhere nearby. As well as the walk itself, there is the option to meet for a meal or a drink before the walk and/or after the walk for those who wish. You will be able to see from the location and the walk description whether or not the walk is going to be suitable for you – but the idea is that all on the walk will benefit from enjoyable exercise and a good social.

Please make sure you are wearing appropriate clothing and footwear for the weather and terrain – the walk leader will always have the right to decide on the day if someone is not appropriately dressed. The walk leaders are all members of the club and are volunteers.

There are car share options available, so if you are stuck for a lift, just add a note here and we’ll do our level best to help.

There are usually between 10 to 20 walkers dependent on the weather and location – so by all means come along and join in. It’s a great gateway to the rest of the club, you can talk to new and established members and find out about the full range of events we have on in Manchester every month.

The walks are very popular, so please RSVP if you plan to attend and we’ll make sure you’re made to feel very welcome !
