There is an option for a pub lunch at 12:00hrs, i.e. noon (but let me know in advance as I may book a table). Otherwise meet for preamble drinks at the Spread Eagle Hotel (in the centre of Lymm) from 13:00 to be ready for departure outside the pub at 13:30 or from nearby Lymm Cross at 13:35 for a stroll including Lymm Dam, the canal and Spud Wood. The going will be an easy 5.5 miles but dress according to the weather/mud conditions.
Easier than it sounds but allow a few minutes extra. From the Lymm roundabout (M56 J7) take the A56 to Lymm. After a couple of miles, in Lymm and opposite the Church and Church pub (both on your left), turn right down Rectory Lane. Drive to its end; the junction with Pepper Street. Immediately in front is Pepper Street Pay & display car park so turn right to reach its entrance. Park, then walk the few metres to the village cross on the main road (also called The Cross) and if going to the pub turn left for a short distance to the pub situated on the left. Other parking options nearby including up the hill opposite the pub and forking left (car park by the canal).
Every Sunday throughout the year, Manchester IVC has a walk which starts off at 1.30 pm prompt, and is usually 4-5 miles …. something like that. We meet at a local pub or restaurant and the walk will either start from there or somewhere nearby. As well as the walk itself, there is the option to meet for a meal or a drink before the walk and/or after the walk for those who wish. You will be able to see from the location and the walk description whether or not the walk is going to be suitable for you – but the idea is that all on the walk will benefit from enjoyable exercise and a good social.
Please make sure you are wearing appropriate clothing and footwear for the weather and terrain – the walk leader will always have the right to decide on the day if someone is not appropriately dressed. The walk leaders are all members of the club and are volunteers.
There are car share options available, so if you are stuck for a lift, just add a note here and we’ll do our level best to help.
There are usually between 10 to 20 walkers dependent on the weather and location – so by all means come along and join in. It’s a great gateway to the rest of the club, you can talk to new and established members and find out about the full range of events we have on in Manchester every month.
The walks are very popular, so please RSVP if you plan to attend and we’ll make sure you’re made to feel very welcome !
