Today’s walk leader is Roy (not on Meetup), whose number is 07519 814284.
Walk of about 5 miles going up Win Hill and back to Hope village.
Meet at the Old Hall Hotel, Market Place, Hope S33 6RH for lunch at 12.00, there is also a tea room at the rear for those cake and coffee lovers. The walk will start at 1.30, and there will be a steep ascent up towards Win Hill. The reward is fabulous views of Derwent valley, Ladybower reservoir, Kinder Scout, and Bleaklow hill.
Directions – follow the A6 out of Stockport until you reach a roundabout that takes you right to Whaley Bridge, go straight on to the bypass, be careful cars do speed on this stretch of road. Shortly you will see a sign that directs you to Castleton, follow this all the way to Castleton, then take the A6187 to Hope and look for Edale road, the pub is right next to this road.
I will be coming by train, there are regular trains from Manchester. I think this is the best way to get there. To get to the pub from the station, go over the bridge, follow the entrance to the main road and turn right into Hope village.
Every Sunday throughout the year, Manchester IVC has a walk which starts off at 1.30 pm prompt, and is usually 4-5 miles …. something like that. We meet at a local pub or restaurant and the walk will either start from there or somewhere nearby. As well as the walk itself, there is the option to meet for a meal or a drink before the walk and/or after the walk for those who wish. You will be able to see from the location and the walk description whether or not the walk is going to be suitable for you – but the idea is that all on the walk will benefit from enjoyable exercise and a good social.
Please make sure you are wearing appropriate clothing and footwear for the weather and terrain – the walk leader will always have the right to decide on the day if someone is not appropriately dressed. The walk leaders are all members of the club and are volunteers.
There are car share options available, so if you are stuck for a lift, just add a note here and we’ll do our level best to help.
There are usually between 10 to 20 walkers dependent on the weather and location – so by all means come along and join in. It’s a great gateway to the rest of the club, you can talk to new and established members and find out about the full range of events we have on in Manchester every month.
The walks are very popular, so please RSVP if you plan to attend and we’ll make sure you’re made to feel very welcome !
