Today’s walk leader is Audrey (Not on Meetup) :
I will be leading a 6 mile moderate walk starting from the Navigation Inn in Buxworth. ( GR: 022 821).
I have booked a table for 8 at the pub for 12.00. The walk will begin at 13.30.
We will cross the A6 and then follow a lane uphill followed by a gentle ascent of Eccles Pike. Hopefully there will be good views all round. We will then follow lanes and fields and finally the canal back to the pub. In case of a poor weather forecast I will lead a lower route.
From Manchester follow the A6 through Furness Vale and as you come into Bridgemont look for signs to Chinley and Buxworth ( and the Bugsworth Canal Basin). Turn sharp left onto the B6062.
(From Whaley Bridge: drive through the town and turn LEFT onto the A6. Shortly look for signs to Chinley and Buxworth ( and the Bugsworth Canal Basin. Turn right onto the B6062)
Follow the B6062 for about 1 mile.Turn right following signs for Bugsworth Canal Basin and you will immediately see the Navigation Inn.
At the time of writing this there were roadworks on the A6 and in Poynton so please check your routes and allow plenty of time.
Every Sunday throughout the year, Manchester IVC has a walk which starts off at 1.30 pm prompt, and is usually 4-5 miles …. something like that. We meet at a local pub or restaurant and the walk will either start from there or somewhere nearby. As well as the walk itself, there is the option to meet for a meal or a drink before the walk and/or after the walk for those who wish. You will be able to see from the location and the walk description whether or not the walk is going to be suitable for you – but the idea is that all on the walk will benefit from enjoyable exercise and a good social.
Please make sure you are wearing appropriate clothing and footwear for the weather and terrain – the walk leader will always have the right to decide on the day if someone is not appropriately dressed. The walk leaders are all members of the club and are volunteers.
There are car share options available, so if you are stuck for a lift, just add a note here and we’ll do our level best to help.
There are usually between 10 to 20 walkers dependent on the weather and location – so by all means come along and join in. It’s a great gateway to the rest of the club, you can talk to new and established members and find out about the full range of events we have on in Manchester every month.
The walks are very popular, so please RSVP if you plan to attend and we’ll make sure you’re made to feel very welcome !
