Today’s leader is Tom P :
A flat walk of 2 miles, no stiles, on manicured lawns and gravel paths, with pauses to see how well the spring-flowering shrubs have coped with last year’s drought, all in the wonder that is the gardens of Arley Hall.
Meet in the restaurant, which offers a Sunday roast, salad and sandwiches, at 12:00 or outside thereof, in the cobbled yard, at 13:30. The Hall is well signposted and is about five miles from junction 20 of the M6 (aka M56 junction 9); take the slip roads for the A50 (signposted Warrington) and follow the Arley Hall brown signs westwards. Getting in costs £11-00 (ouch).
Every Sunday throughout the year, Manchester IVC has a walk which starts off at 1.30 pm prompt, and is usually 4-5 miles …. something like that. We meet at a local pub or restaurant and the walk will either start from there or somewhere nearby. As well as the walk itself, there is the option to meet for a meal or a drink before the walk and/or after the walk for those who wish. You will be able to see from the location and the walk description whether or not the walk is going to be suitable for you – but the idea is that all on the walk will benefit from enjoyable exercise and a good social.
Please make sure you are wearing appropriate clothing and footwear for the weather and terrain – the walk leader will always have the right to decide on the day if someone is not appropriately dressed. The walk leaders are all members of the club and are volunteers.
There are car share options available, so if you are stuck for a lift, just add a note here and we’ll do our level best to help.
There are usually between 10 to 20 walkers dependent on the weather and location – so by all means come along and join in. It’s a great gateway to the rest of the club, you can talk to new and established members and find out about the full range of events we have on in Manchester every month.
The walks are very popular, so please RSVP if you plan to attend and we’ll make sure you’re made to feel very welcome !
