Sunday Lunch and Afternoon Walk, Combs, nr. Chapel-en-le-Frith

Today’s walk leader is Chris W. Lunch/drinks (optional) from 12 noon, and the walk which starts at 1.30 pm will be from the Hanging Gate, Manchester Road, Chapel-en-le Frith, High Peak, SK23 9UH. It is a walk to Combs of around 6 miles, including a steep-ish climb of about 100m (330’) in the middle. The Hanging Gate is at the Tunstead Milton end of Chapel, and is best approached by taking the A6 as far as the start of the Whaley Bridge bypass, then avoiding the bypass by taking the right turn (A5004) to Whaley Bridge and then turning left (Chapel Road B5470) at the traffic lights at the crossroads on the other side of town. The pub is on the right after about 2 miles just after a small sign for Cockyard. There is also a small free public car park at Combs Reservoir, (about 20 mins into the walk). This is on the right, roughly 0.5 mile before the pub down an unnamed narrow lane, marked by a Dead-End road sign, a NW Water sign to Combs Reservoir and a small footpath sign.

Public transport: The 199 Skyline bus passes the pub and leaves Stockport Bus Station at 05 past the hour, every hour, taking about 45 minutes.

Every Sunday throughout the year, Manchester IVC has a walk which starts off at 1.30 pm prompt, and is usually 4-5 miles …. something like that. We meet at a local pub or restaurant and the walk will either start from there or somewhere nearby. As well as the walk itself, there is the option to meet for a meal or a drink before the walk and/or after the walk for those who wish. You will be able to see from the location and the walk description whether or not the walk is going to be suitable for you – but the idea is that all on the walk will benefit from enjoyable exercise and a good social.

Please make sure you are wearing appropriate clothing and footwear for the weather and terrain – the walk leader will always have the right to decide on the day if someone is not appropriately dressed. The walk leaders are all members of the club and are volunteers.

There are car share options available, so if you are stuck for a lift, just add a note here and we’ll do our level best to help.

There are usually between 10 to 20 walkers dependent on the weather and location – so by all means come along and join in. It’s a great gateway to the rest of the club, you can talk to new and established members and find out about the full range of events we have on in Manchester every month.

The walks are very popular, so please RSVP if you plan to attend and we’ll make sure you’re made to feel very welcome !
